Hamilton Hall

Welcome Alumni!

McMaster’s Department of Religious Studies explores diverse religious traditions, examining their historical, cultural, and philosophical aspects to foster critical thinking, interfaith dialogue, and a nuanced understanding of religion’s impact on society. In response to the evolving needs of society, Religious Studies continually adapts its programs and curricula to address emerging issues such as globalization, digitalization, secularization, and the intersection of religion with social justice and human rights.

The Department of Religious Studies extends heartfelt gratitude to the generous donors whose support enables us to provide exceptional education, research opportunities, and a vibrant intellectual community for students and scholars in the field of religious studies.

Message from a Faculty Member

A heartfelt thank you and a request for support

On behalf of the Department of Religious Studies, we are so grateful for the support so many of you have provided throughout the years. With the increased demand for student aid, we respectfully request your consideration of a donation to the 50th Anniversary Religious Studies Graduate Bursary, which was established in 2016 in the celebration of our department’s golden anniversary.

This fund directly supports our Religious Studies graduate students, and your donation will provide vital funding that will help students with essential costs including tuition, in-depth language courses, commuting and travel costs, and cost-of-living supports. Donors will empower our valued students to pursue and complete their studies and research – in short, an investment in our students is an investment in the future of the Religious Studies program at McMaster.

We look forward to sharing the impact of your support, and how it is enabling the leading-edge research of students like Ms. LI and Mr. Lagace, and creating new leaders in the field of study like Dr. Stephanie Balkwill, whose stories you can read here. Thank you all for your consideration, and to so many of you who have given back for so many years.

Sincerely,
Dr. Eileen Schuller

Should you have any questions about making a gift, including a one-time, monthly or annual donation, or about leaving a legacy gift to McMaster’s Religious Studies department, please contact Senior Development Officer, Claire Richardson at richak29@mcmaster.ca.
