Social Sciences awarded close to half a million dollars in SSHRC funding

Ten researchers from McMaster’s Faculty of Social Sciences have been awarded a total of $478,661 in funding through the federal government’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. The funding is being awarded through Insight Development Grants.

This morning in Kingston, Ontario, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, announced the Government of Canada is investing $141 million to support nearly 3,000 of Canada's most talented scholars, including early-career researchers, across the country.

"Social sciences and humanities research are at the heart of understanding the challenges and opportunities facing our communities and our people.” said Duncan. “Nurturing young talent in these disciplines is one of the best ways to build a healthier, stronger and more prosperous Canada." 

Social Sciences researchers are involved in a variety of projects. Some of which include, studying the effects of taxation on trade, gathering insight on how social beings are understood within the field of Indigenous Studies, and examining precarious labour.
