Tibetan Buddhist Law in the Dunhuang Manuscripts
Tibetan Buddhist Law in the Dunhuang Manuscripts
Dr. Shayne Clarke is currently carrying out research funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council on the Dunhuang Manuscripts.
What is the research about?
Approximately 4,500 Tibetan manuscripts or fragments thereof were discovered in the so-called “library cave” at the ancient Silk Road town of Dunhuang in the early 1900s. These are now preserved in the Stein and Pelliot collections in the British Library and Bibliothèque nationale de France, respectively.
What did the researcher do?
With a SSHRC Insight Grant, Shayne Clarke is preparing a catalogue of the Tibetan Dunhuang manuscripts related to Buddhist monastic law codes (Vinaya).
