Theory, Religion, Politics (TRP)
Theory, Religion, Politics Graduate Area
TRP links students to faculty across McMaster (Religious Studies, Anthropology, English & Cultural Studies, Political Science, Philosophy), representing a range of Theory approaches.
Our department offers: a 12-month MA (with a Major Research Project); a two-year MA degree (with either a thesis or a project), as well as the PhD degree.
Beginning in Fall 2025, students pursuing the PhD or two-year MA in Religious Studies may choose to specialize in “Theory, Religion, Politics” as their Concentration or Major/Minor Area.
This new Area of Study links students to faculty across McMaster representing a range of Theory methodologies, and with expertise in a variety of traditions of philosophy/theology/thought.
Choosing TRP as your Concentration or Major will allow you to build combined expertise in specific religious traditions (e.g., Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) and in a variety of theoretical/philosophical approaches, through seminars in the Departments of Religious Studies, English & Cultural Studies, Political Science, Anthropology, or Philosophy.
